The Open Hand

The Open Hand Is A Mystery

The Open Hand Is A Mystery

The open hand is a mystery.
Is it for giving?
Is it for receiving?
The mystery is this:
It is an endless circle,
For one cannot give
Without receiving even more.
I open my hand to give to you,
But in so doing, I receive more from you.
The open hand is a mystery.
Is it for giving?
Is it for receiving?

Loose Your Tongue

Loose Your Tongue

Loose Your Tongue

Loose your tongue and let quickly fly
Words that lift and build others high
Stay your tongue from words that wound and hurt
From those so sharp that maim and are curt

Bridle phrases that embarass and shame
That bruise and maim; never think that things could be the same
Let your words like eagles fly
Reflect no moat in thine own eye

Dip in love, drape in kindness
All thy words to build and bless
See thy friend in thy foe–
Why thy foe? Let it go

Give thyself the gift of peace
To those that hurt us, simply release
Christ has bourne our suffering
To keep it with us mocks His pain

Harness joy through forgiving
BEFORE we live with Him again
Our time on earth is but a little blip
Let only honey fall from thy lip

Stay thy tongue from the barbs of pain and
Let fly the power bourne of deep refrain
God’s children are His greatest gift
Our very words can heal and lift where
Long forgotten wounds yet remain and cause a rift

Let our Spirit work its love
And flood us with light from heav’n above
Yes, loose your tongue and let quickly fly
Words that lift and build others high
